Jim Karpowicz is a video producer specializing in environmental and historical subject matters. For his work with the Missouri Department of Conservation, Jim has won three individual regional Emmy awards in addition to eleven regional Emmys associated with work on "Missouri Outdoors" and "Just Kiddin' Around." Notably, the program “Lewis and Clark, the Corps of Discovery” received an Emmy award in the documentary category.

Jim has also produced several award-winning programs for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources including "Talkin' Trash: The Buy Recycled Loop," "Break it Down! The Compost Connection," "Saving Our Soil," and several programs concerning state parks in Missouri.
With the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education he researched, wrote, directed, and videotaped a series on Missouri history for use in schools. “Finding Missouri: Our History and Heritage” consisted of eighteen episodes from the archaeological past to present. The programs are heavily utilized in classrooms around the state and available on the web.
Recently Jim traveled to a remote section of Nicaragua with the St. Louis Zoo to shoot a documentary on the Zoo's community conservation program in the region. The resulting program "Bosawas" is currently playing in the auditorium at the Living World exhibit at the St. Louis Zoo.

Jim has also been extremely active in promoting and publicizing clean-ups of the Missouri River. The organization he created, Missouri River Relief, has motivated thousands of volunteers to care about the Missouri River, their water resources, and their heritage. In the process, hundreds of tons of trash have been removed from the Missouri River.

Jim lives in rural Boone County near the Missouri River. Between video and river projects, he continues his lifelong passion for rock climbing. His two children, Mallory and Kyle are just entering their college years.
